get them off the black background and white font...

If you scroll up to the top of your page and click on Profile, you should be redirected to a screen that lets you change your preferences. The 3rd section down (preferences) contains an option that lets you select the Theme of the boards. One of those themes may be easier on your eyes. If you don't like them, then /poke bactros to get another one.

You can see the available styles for upgrading (that bactros could download) on the following web page...

At the top of the page on the link above there's an option to chose a different style. This should let you see the available options for downloading. Bactros only has a few available at this point in time.

edit: Charcoal 2 may be an example of something more to Nestira's preference.

The default should be red and black. Not sure why some people have different one as default unless they changed it themselves.

I doubt I will add any more themes because I have had to edit them manually for some changes I made and do not wish to do that again.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't all of the themes currently available have a dark background and light text?

I think Nestira was looking for an inverse of that -- dark text and a light background.
