If you haven't seen this, you might want to. It is very interesting to get a first hand account. You can watch it in slideshow but you really want to read the comments as they really tell the story.

I talked to a dude from New Orleans who stayed in his house with his father during Katrina. Its amazing how much he waants to go home and repair the area he lived in instead of going somewhere else. I guess he was stuck in his attick with his 75yr old grandfather for 3 days until the CEO of his company sent out a rescue team. He took his son to his aunts and uncles and went back cos his father wouldnt leave.
