Always interesting to see numbers. Unfortunately it always makes me want more numbers
For example ~ How many accounts have level 70 characters, and how many are unique owners? I personally have 3 characters at level 70. I would imagine that this is a number based on active accounts, or possibly characters that have logged in within the past misc timeframe.
It does also suggest that there is still a significant player base for EQ.
There are over 92,250 level 70 characters listed. Reduce this by the number of players with multiple 70s and increase this for players that are not yet level 70 on any characters. This means they're probably still generating at least $1,000,000 a month in subscription fees.
Thanks for posting this.

It's kinda weird to see Enchanters that high still. With the way the game is these days, there are a lot better 3rd classes - Shamans, Druid, Wizards all come to mind. Even Knights are up there. We just have so little use except for one or two encounters today its sad. Where you used to need 5 to 7 active enchanters you can now get away with 1 or 2 and a bot.
Berserkers show their form though. They have just never really been embraced by the EQ community and the funny thing is that Sony has certainly lost its vision of class balancing by letting them hang out on the limb the way they have. Sony has done nothing to give them a unique ability either group, solo or raid in order to welcome them in to the fold so to speak.

I think a lot of people underestimate berserkers. However, I do agree that one of the reason zerkers never became popular is because they don't have any abilities single to them (they are probably 2nd best melee dps, one of the best kiters/snares, probably even if not a little ahead of monks on the tanking front, can stun, etc.). They have a unique set of abilities, but no real uniques, but that isn't the real big thing.
The big thing is that they weren't around when Verant was here, they are totally products of the new completely sony run dev group. They don't have any quirky oldschool abilities, though they have some endurance using equivalents, making them very much about the numbers. They can't do anything like evade like rogues(rogues have other tricks, too, shhh...), can't mend like monks, and sony has even stated that CHeal and Slows were a bad thing to put into the game (a view of their mentality). Probably most of all, though, they never had any items specifically designed for them from prePoP. As a person that likes the effects on old content stuff, I have a plethura of rogue items that are just nice to have. 2 35% slow weapons, several snare weapons of differing types and resists, many of which are rogue only. Every other class has this kind of stuff, the really cool stuff that was always cool to show around and helped define the classes as what they are today, zerkers don't. Zerkers pretty much have a patchwork of other people's awesome stuff, though their kunark class gear isn't too bad.
Okay, I lied, zerkers have one useful ability: their multi target discs, they even have an AE one now with DoD, I believe, which can be a very nice boost of raid dps at key times. And also, I've grouped with Tempir, the VM Zerker who's top on the server and like 8th serverwide... He's probably the best kiter I've ever seen, you can't strip aggro off his kiting at all, plus they don't have to stop moving to cast spells when they kite, all their stuff is instant, making it very nice for maneuvering in tight spaces.
Just my little addition to this.

Working on it... Working on it...
He's 8.3k unbuffed now, with over 150 AAs, not so bad for coming off of being a twink 3 weeks ago. Just gotta hope he gets his work hours changed so he can raid more than 2 days a week, would be the end of february and I'm hoping for 350 AAs and at the very least 9k unbuffed.
We'll see...

dunno why dalla... sony has built the game so that if you cant tank/heal/slow your extra dead weight.
im surprised about necro and bards.
since (from what i hear) necro's fear being busted and bards are so versatile but i doubt there are alot that can play a bard incredible well now days.
mages towards the bottom.. no supprise there.

i may be way off base here, but i think its possible that chanters are up there so high because folks see all the cash they make selling kei in pok and then say, man i need to make a chanter!!!
not to mention that they usually don't have too much of a problem getting into a grind grp. which reminds me, since alot of folks are doing mm's these days, does anybody grind anymore? lol

Players who try a bard normally give up in their late 20s and 30s and those that make it to level 50 are frustrated with dps and dieing a lot it was better when swarm was available but that didn't last long - Sony made more mobs summon and immune to slowing their movement. I was actually surprised at how many there are. But even on Quellious there are only about 30 level 70 Bards who can do top end raiding.
The numbers don't really reflect top end players there are a lot of players who grind AAs but languish equipment wise and aren't able to get to the top zones to get better equipment. Thats why DoN and DoD have rewards geared to cultural armor.

Face it Dalla, we chanters are just the hottest things out there to look at. So when the warrior gets his ass wooped and the cleric's healing him/her they gotta look at something. And Dalla, you're the best looking Shim out there!
I do have to admit that I agree /choke with Dalla. When I was playing, oh so many moons ago, I often felt that chanters were becoming a thing of the past. Bards could mez, slow and tank... Not to mention if you got a good one they could pull and not bring the whole house on you. DAMN YOU BARDS!! =)
