Pro football

Post by Dalla »

In honor of McPally's post on College Football I thought I might start a thread on Pro football and see where it goes.

With the performances the last two weeks, the Superbowl champs have demonstrated they may very well be the third best team in their division and the once mighty Patriots are not showing that they are too well off without all their veteran talent.

Other than Jacksonville, the Florida teams aren't showing too well. Tampa may have lost Simms for the season after the ONE game he actually did well in and the Dolphins are not panning out very well with Culpepper at the helm. Jacksonville, however, beat Pittsburgh up pretty well and hung pretty well with Indy.

Chris Berman's Norris division is doing a lot better than most expected. Minnesota and Chicago are atop the elite of the NFC and Brett Favre has looked like the Favre of old throwing 7 touchdowns in the last two games.

The NFC East is lagging severly with Dallas playing mediocre ball, Washington losing their first two and Philly choking against the up and coming Giants.

The NFC west comes down to Seattle basically and no one looks like they are going to challenge them anytime soon, unless Atlanta can put together a good defense and go on the road and win the big one which Vick traditionally cannot do.

As for the AFC, the west is pretty much a joke, the east is getting there and the central and south come down to a handful of younge teams other than Indy.

So with three weeks gone in the season, how do you see the season.....

MN > All.

I dont get cable (dont have time to watch tv, spend too much time yelling) so I dont get to watch the games but I'm following the Vikings pretty close. I'm worried about the teams long term prospects though as far as a QB.

Well the Madden Curse lives on and now Seattle has lost their most explosive weapon. The Bucs season is pretty much over not like it was better with him at the helm, but 6 weeks without your starting QB is something you just don't overcome, unless you have Brad Johnson, Tom Brady, or Kurt Warner as your backup and Bruce Gradkowski is no Jack Kennedy.

Even the Bengals don't seem to be exempt from stupidity. They beat up the Superbowl champs on Sunday and celebrate by getting shit faced and driving home....drunk. The one lucky thing is for Seattle, it looks like Arizona might be throwing in the towl on this season and looking forward to next year.

At this time, Im thinking its Seahawks vs Bengals. Although I reserve the right to revise that in 2-3 weeks.

The AFC will come down to 3 teams fighting it out for the spot. Colts, Bengals, and Chargers. My thoughts are that the game between Colts and Bengals will determine home field advantage for the playoffs. Patriots, Steelers, and Jaguars all are in danger of not making playoffs this year. And the Steelers have the roughest of all, they still have 1 game with the Bengals, and 2 with the Ravens who are looking much better than last year. They could very easily be 2 and 4 in thier division and witht the loss to the Jags, probably best case for them is 11-5, but thats without any more losses except o those 3 in the division.

The NFC is going to be more hotly contested. There are 7 or 8 quality teams with only 6 spots. Seahawks and Bears are the really only 2 locks to make the playoffs, barring key season ending injuries. The Falcons, Giants, Saints, Eagles, Cowboys, and Lions all can make strong bids for the 2 wild card spots.

AFC playoff picture will shape up with:

1. Bengals
2. Colts (these 2 are interchangable)
3. Chargers
4. Jets
5. Ravens (who could have the 3rd best record in the AFC)
6. Jaguars (Patriots and Steelers are on thier heels)

NFC playoff picture:

1. Seattle
2. Chicago
3. Eagles
4. Falcons
5. Saints
6. Lions (could put a couple other teams here, but I like Kitna)

I'm gonna join Matt and put up some predictions early:

NFC
1) Dallas
2) Atlanta
3) Chicago
4) Seattle
5) New Orleans
6) Washington edges out GB

AFC
1) NYJ (with no better than 9 wins)
2) Indy
3) Cincy
4) San Diego
5) Baltimore (I agree with Matt that they very well could be the 3rd best team in the AFC)
6) Jax edges out the Patsies

PS mine are listed by division east to west, not by order of finish (except the last two are wild cards)

Dallas is a sleeper team. You just dont know which Bledsoe and Owens is going to show up to play. And with the Eagles picking up Stallworth, unsure about his recent injury he missed last week and I had him in 2 different fantasy teams McNabb has 2 quality receivers and a TE to throw to, which is taking a lot of pressure off Westbrooke. I dont think any team though out of this divison is a true powerhouse and any of the 4 could easily win the division. Washington is at a disadvantage with Portis being hurt, but they could rally and still put a season together.

Green Bay wasnt even on my list. Here again you just dont know which Farve is going to show up to play. The old firey Brett showed up last weekend. But previous the 2 weekends it looked like the I needed to have retired two years ago version.

A coulple of things that we know for sure as of right now. Houston, Tenneesse, and Miami will all be elimanated from the playoffs before midseason. And if Arizona sticks Leinhart in due to the pressure from the fans and media, add their name to that list.

To be honest TO hurts that team more than he helps. The circus atmoshpere that seems to follow him is a cancer for any team. He is a big talent but at a high price.

I am glad that he will recover and hopefully he will seek help.
