I have started playing Battlefield 2142 again recently. Was sad to see so few servers left but i guess the games incredibly old by shooter standards. My main characters name is Malagrin if anyone else by chance plays you could shoot me a friend invite. I really dont know what kind of rpg to pick up in the meantime im really a fantasy fan at heart and since i quit playing dnd recently Everquest was replacing that for me. If dungeons and dragons online sucks and lotro is no good wonder what i should try out? I am an avid and serious hater of world of warcraft and despite my brothers best attempts i refuse to even watch him play that craptastic game. If anyone knows a fairly immersive RPG computer game let me know i dont care if its just a PC game without online content.

Fallout 3 for the PS3 has been my distraction. I find myself spending more time just running around looking at things compared to actually fighting. It's a great game so far if anyone hasn't played it yet.
I'm ok, how are you?

Well, the old video card from other PC allowed this one to at least boot up confirming the problem was my video card.

Bobo, thanks for the links. I will have to do some research. I am a bit surprised to see that the "good all round" video card linked was in the $200+ range (coming from someone whose comp can't handle too many LoN illusions) :)

The video card beeps sounds like Morse code for the letter V. I agree that's what it is. Easy enough to fix. I'm not going to recommend one for you since I'm an ATI woman.

A bit of searching on Newegg and I found this video card. It had a lot of good reviews and looked like a good deal. It has 4 times as much onboard RAM as my current card (2GB versus 512 MB), and I'm currently able to box 4 chars with current configuration. I am a bit unfamiliar with the DDR3 on the video card compared to my current with DDR2. From what I've read, it appears that really doesn't matter since onboard is completely separate from Motherboard RAM. Further, it lists PCI Express 2.1 card. I can see that my motherboard / existing card is PCI express. Is there any compatibility issues with these? Feedback, comments, other suggestions? Thanks for the help!

If you like EQ, get an Nvidia card. SOE hates ATI/AMD. The 460 GTX bobo linked is an excellent card. Its very reasonably priced and is rock solid. I have one in my desktop, and my laptop has the same chipset.

I just got a GTX560 ti 1gb super clocked card a few months ago. Seems to work real well. I think PCIexpress 2.1 is just a newer and faster system built into the cards. I am running a 3 year old machine and my new card works fine with no problems. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814130610 Pretty sure EVGA has a lifetime warranty on their cards. Keep doin research and check nvidia's site and they list cuda cores, compute performance etc for their diff cards.

EQ use to be more processor dependent years ago now with the bloated global file its the GPU that is abused even last years $200~ cards can be effected by the bloat.

And beyond the loot for cash aspect of it.....

I use to have a AMD duron with a a Ti440 card back in velious and up to pop and I can tell you performing my duties while raiding could be a living hell. So I tend feel for those with less then optimal systems these days and that's probably many in our alliance. Graphics lag effects the ability of folks to preform on raids as such anything we can do to reduce graphic lag on raids should be encouraged. To me its a no brainier, I don't see a viable counter argument, asking folks to curtail their non-essential graphic add ons during raids is just like asking folks to shrink. Its for the benefit of others and success of our raids.

/rant off

And besides for me a good all around card is a GTX 580 and that's only half a mortgage payment. :)

Two things.. My and card seems fine with eq. Video memory... If you're on a 32bit os, video memory can eat up your address space and reduce the amount of memory you have. I had 3 gb on an xp system and went from a 512mb card to a 1gb card, which caused my memory to drop into the 2.x gb range.

Intel processors went down hill in hte mid 90's... its why i switched to amd, they are great for overclocking and run very stable with a lil over stock cooling. also... nvidia basicly a buy out of the old voodoo 3dfx platform.... first time i ever used an ati video card it just ripped up anything you could throw at it... and the drivers have always been more stable then then anything that nvidia or voodoo could ever dream of. now as far as eq hating ati and amd... i have personally seen that a nvidia card.. (think it was a 5900) vs an ati 4650, both running 512 on card memory, the nvidia had to have almost every system enhancement, eq partical effect, models, or shinny turned off or way down, while the ati has no problems with almost every shiny turned on in windows and in eq. just saying what i have seen.... probally cause the 2 systems were mine and my ex's... she was the nvidia junkie.

my last system that Ig ave to son when HIS went down, ran a AMD phenom 9850 quad core with a ATI hd3870 and it was a beast with EQ so I m nto sure I agree with the ATI thing or I was lucky. I would STILL love to get another 3870, that card was awesome to me.
