so i go to the federal building today to pick up an ATC Exam schedule.

they direct me to the downtown post office. no problem... i actually *expected* to be sent all over town looking for the thing.

so i get to the post office and ask for the ATC Exam schedule/application.

"ATC?" she asks
"Air Traffic Controller"
"what's a air traffic controller?"
*ferriciean stares blankly*

were i you guys...
i'd make sure you got your taxes in the mail *early* this year.

Keep in mind this is the same government that brought you hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines on Janet Jackson while allowing Rush Limbaugh to conceal his prescription purchase records.

Also worth noting, in relation to what Dalla said - the house has just passed a bill that causes individual broadcasters to be fined up to half a million dollars in addition to the fines levied against their company in the event that an indecency charge is brought against them.

...who was it that was a lawyer again? I may need to retain your services one day.

Just to clarify something. The Post Office stopped carying any kind of federal forms (with the exception of voter registration and selective service) a long time ago. The moron that sent you to the post office has obviously been in the field way to long.

Are you already a fed. employee/ex pilot? If you aren't, afaik unless something changed, the ATC exam is not available to the public (so what you were probably looking for doesnt exist). It's a 4 year program available at only a handful of schools in the nation. Aside from that, they have an exam they give out for internal qualified Federal people, and ex pilots/controllers from the military. So sayeth an old controller I work with. There is also an age limit for applying in either case...like 30 or something.

If you are one of the above tho...I would try to get the office # of your local flight service station and call during business hours, and try to get the exact name of the form you're looking for. Usually if I have a question and call during the morning I don't get the run around (over here anyway). Calling after hours is a whole different ballpark. If you're a fed employee or ex military tho I can't imagine it being that hard to get the correct hookups for this, they usually jump on the ATC positions by the truckload.
